It's Ramadhan Again

It's that time of the year again...yes, it's the month of Ramadhan again. While Ramadhan is the month of fasting for Muslims, one thing which set the month apart from other months are the availability of a wide array of mouth-watering delicacies. Although Ramadhan is not solely meant for eating alone, it nevertheless is a month eagerly awaited by many simply for the wide selection of local delicacies.

While Ramadhan bazaars are the norm during this month, practically every hotel will also jump on the bandwagon to offer a wide selection of cuisine to tempt the public. Although the prices at these hotels varies, these hotels still managed to attract customers. This is especially so as these hotels have their own unique way to set them apart from the rest. One good example is Casa del Rio.

Taking a different path, the hotel has introduced a unique way of presenting its Ramadhan delicacies. Aptly named "Bersantai Sedulang - Makanan Sajian Kampung', the hotel is trying to recreate the kampung (village) atmosphere by serving its food on a tray (or dulang as they call it locally). While this will create some uniqueness, it will also certainly bring back a lot of memories for those who grew up in the kampung and had enjoyed eating from a tray.

Although the dulang feast takes centre stage, other side dishes, namely desserts, are also served although separately. True to its name as one of the premier hotels in Melaka, Casa del Rio certainly has a way with its food presentation. In short, it is a great experience eating from a tray as I have never tried it before. And furthermore, as far as I can recall, no other hotels in Melaka had even attempted this before.
